zamora in the saint jame´s way
St. James Way is a travel to share experiences with other pilgrims, while making a memorable trip that you will probably repeat in a future, living an adventure that will discover more about you.

Zamora is at the neuralgic centre of the Silver Way.

During the reigns of the emperors Trajan and Adrian, it started as a Roman Road that initially linked Emerita Augusta (Merida) with Asturica Augusta (Astorga) and later reached Sevilla in the south and Gijon in the north by means of the so-called Carisa Way.

This route also became a connecting link with the French and Sanabres Ways that lead to the summit of the pilgrimage in Santiago de Compostela.

During this Jubilee Year 2010, Zamora will become an obligatory stopover for all those pilgrims that decide to commence their incursion to Santiago along the Silver Way, finding along the way an inviting city perfectly adapted to their necessities.

El Albergue de Peregrinos 'Ciudad de Zamora'

The Pilgrim’s Hostel “Ciudad de Zamora” , inaugurated on 23 January 2008, coinciding with the festival in honour of San Ildefonso, the patron saint of Zamora, is the first access reference in the city for pilgrims.

It has 32 beds distributed in 6 rooms, a kitchen, bathrooms, a living-room, a lift and a terrace; some of the commodities that pilgrims will find in this hostel situated in the historic centre, in an emblematic and inviting environment.

Near it, the city offers all types of tourism infrastructures, restaurants, information points and activities favouring the pilgrim’s stopover and leaving a mark in the memory all walkers, who besides taking time for meditation, can enjoy the large amount of artistic and cultural heritage, and enjoy the gastronomic offer of the city.

Zamora and its inhabitants will contribute in the best possible way by facilitating and easing the long and sometimes difficult route that will take them to the summit of this Jubilee Year 2010, in Santiago de Compostela.
